Northern Forest Canoe Trail
Follow one of the most historically rich paddling routes along the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. The 740 mile inland paddling trail traces routes across New York, Vermont, Québec, New Hampshire and Maine. By connecting people, the natural environment, our heritage and contemporary communities the Trail stewards, promotes and provides unparalleled access to canoe and kayak experiences. The Trail is Maine’s premier paddling resource and the nation’s foremost water trail.
In fact, Maine encompasses more than half the length of the Trail, extending from Rangeley to Fort Kent via storied waterways and water bodies like Flagstaff Lake, Moosehead Lake, the West Branch of the Penobscot, and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.
For travelers planning to use the NFCT there is a series of maps, a guidebook, and an online trip planner with direct links to local businesses and services. The website offers packages itineraries, interactive maps and custom itinerary tools. NFCT maps 8-13 include the entire Maine route and provide detailed camping and navigational information.
